How it all started

I have an addiction and it is shoes.

I am a typical Australian woman that loves shoes, I can't wait to get new pairs and I love it when the box comes from overseas. I buy most of my shoes from overseas, as they are much cheaper and you know that you won't have anyone turn up in the same pair of shoes as you will. Most of my shoes are bought from America.

I was asked to provide some of my photography and some of my shoes (I have over 90 pairs - I think and I am not game to count them) for a display for the 2011 International Women's Day.

I then decided to add the two together. I took 12 pairs of my shoes and added "props" with them to create these 12 photos. To add the names of the photos I created little black shoes. The art work was called "THE ROLES OF A WOMAN"

I came back from hanging up the photos and decided it was time to start entering competitions. (shouldn't have a glass of wine at lunch - the mind goes crazy!!!)

I had seen a competition based in Australia the Shutterbug Photography Award. I had wanted to enter the competition in previous years, but just couldn't get an idea that I wanted to use. The competition requires one theme and each one of the photos must have that theme. You need to enter between 15-30 photos.

I had noticed that some of the previous winners had been set to music, I guess I had to select that first.

I had a thought about about using my shoes but what ones to use. Of course when you think about shoe songs, you automatically think of "Blue Suede Shoes" as well as "These Boots are made for Walking". I had to find something so much better than that, something edgy and unusual.

As I went though the list I found the song that I wanted. The Red Shoes by Kate Bush. The Red Shoes - Kate Bush (the song starts at about 2.20 minutes in) such an amazing voice - very haunting.

The bonus being in my HUGE collection of shoes - I do own a red pair!!!!

The Red Shoes

So now the thoughts came thick and fast as to where I wanted to photograph these shoes and what I wanted to do with them.

I have taken these shoes all around Australia with me, photographed them in some strange and unusual locations, and had many people think I was crazy. I spent time carrying them under my arm, until I could find the perfect shots. My camera and the shoes were never far away from me, just in case.

All the photos I have taken of them, were exactly how they came out of the camera, with whatever effects the camera could do to them.

So let the journey begin, of where these shoes have been. I will add maps to each post so you can plot where they have been too.

Please enjoy their story!!!!
